What is F-Gas?
F-Gas is a family of fluorinated gases regularly used in refrigerants in air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems. Fluorinated gases have a high global warming effect if released into the atmosphere. The F-Gases most commonly used as refrigerants in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) equipment are Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), but also include Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) & Sulphur hexafluoride (SFs).
Regulations
This family of fluorinated gases is subject to stringent EU and national regulations to contain and prevent emissions of F-Gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol. In some cases, the obligations lie with the owner/operator of the equipment. In other situations, the obligations rest with third parties, such as equipment suppliers, maintenance contractors, and waste-handling companies.
Many obligations apply to RAC system suppliers and maintenance contractors, primarily related to the use of appropriately qualified personnel and certification of companies.
At FSW, we take our responsibilities very seriously. We can only sell F-Gas products to customers who hold the required certificates and qualifications. We make these records available to the regulator (the Environmental Agency, local authority, or the European Commission). For more detailed guidance, visit: F-Gas Registration Ireland
How can I guarantee compliance?
By law, only qualified air conditioning technicians may conduct inspections, repairs, and maintenance on equipment containing F-Gases. If your company handles F-Gas (installation, supply, maintenance, etc.), you must have your engineers personally certified and the company registered with F-Gas Registration Ltd.
You can apply or renew your F-Gas certification here. Your current F-Gas certification remains valid up to 31st December every year (unless there is a change in EU/UK agreements). Following Brexit, you are required to register with F-Gas registration to enable EU compliance, as UK company F-Gas Registration Certificates are no longer accepted.
